Leongatha Secondary College adopted Griddle to modernise scheduling and build team resilience around the timetabling process. Moving from a single‑user, offline setup to a shared, cloud-based workspace has helped the College distribute workload, accelerate problem‑solving, and support a first‑time timetabler with structured training and hands‑on guidance.
“Griddle has allowed us to spread the workload amongst a number of staff members.”
The challenge
Before Griddle, timetabling at Leongatha Secondary College was constrained by:
- Single‑person access: Only one user could work in the timetable at a time, on a single offline file.
- Workload bottlenecks and coverage risk: It was hard to share tasks or step in when the timetabler was away.
“You could only work on one file at a time offline. This made it difficult to share the workload or to cover if the timetabler was away.”
Why Griddle
Griddle enables us to work collaboratively in a shared online environment, so multiple staff members can contribute at the same time. When we need assistance, support is fast and responsive, with phone or online meetings available as required. For onboarding, we paired Griddle Academy’s on‑demand lessons with face‑to‑face online sessions, which made getting up to speed, especially for a new timetabler, much easier than we expected.
“We can generate a report about teaching loads that is live and current in a matter of moments.”
Implementation and support
As we introduced Griddle, we combined Griddle Academy’s on‑demand lessons with scheduled online sessions. This blend of self‑paced learning and live guidance quickly built our confidence and kept the timetable progressing on schedule. When questions arose, we received hands‑on help, with most issues resolved within 24 hours. We also emphasised knowledge transfer so multiple staff could perform key workflows, reducing single‑point dependency and strengthening continuity across the team.
“The support from Griddle has been wonderful. Online meetings so there is face to face time has been a real game changer.”
What sets Griddle apart
- Visual clarity: Colour‑coded squares and class groupings make it easy to scan for clashes and placement issues.
- Flexible views: Different timetable views help staff interrogate data from multiple angles.
- Powerful reports: Fast, configurable reporting for teaching loads, teacher availability and conflicts.
- Subject selections: Smoother management of subject choices compared with the previous program.
“Being able to highlight set classes makes it very easy to scan the timetable for errors or class placement.”
Impact and results
Since adopting Griddle, we have moved from a bottlenecked, single‑person model to a truly collaborative workflow. Multiple staff members now share timetabling responsibilities, strengthening continuity and resilience when people are away or roles change. With live, current reports on teaching loads, teacher availability and conflicts available in moments, we make faster, evidence‑based decisions and adjust the timetable with confidence. As a school with a first‑time timetabler, the combination of structured Griddle Academy lessons and responsive, face‑to‑face support accelerated onboarding and gave us the confidence to run a new program effectively.
“We would recommend this program to anyone timetabling.”
